Padel in Stockport: our guide

Updated October 2026

The Padel Club (Wilmslow), 4 outdoor courts in Handforth

From Stockport you can be on a padel court a couple of minutes after stepping off the train. The nearest court is right by the station, and the rest spread south towards Cheadle, Handforth and the Cheshire border, with a handful more up the line in south and east Manchester.

As of October 2026 we count 14 venues with 67 courts within six miles of the town centre. Indoor and outdoor are close to even (31 indoor, 32 outdoor, with the split at one club not listed), and 12 of the 14 venues are pay and play.

Stockport itself

Three venues are in the town. Life Leisure Grand Central has one outdoor court with panoramic glass, two minutes on foot from Stockport station, and opens from 6.30am to 10pm every day. Half a mile away in SK4, Soul Padel Stockport has six courts, two of them covered outdoor ones, booked through Playtomic.

Over in Reddish, Life Leisure Houldsworth Village has a single indoor court with the same hours as Grand Central. It is the one venue in the area listed as accessible, and the only one with racket hire.

Cheadle and Handforth

Cheadle has three venues, and only one is open to everyone: Destination Padel (Cheadle), with three indoor courts and coaching. South Manchester Sports Club has seven covered outdoor courts and David Lloyd (Cheadle) has two outdoor, both for members.

David Lloyd (Cheadle), 2 outdoor courts

A little further south, Handforth has two clubs under the same name. The Padel Club Handforth Dean has five indoor courts, and The Padel Club (Wilmslow), also in Handforth, has four outdoor courts and offers coaching.

Adlington

Five miles south, near Poynton, Adlington has two neighbours. Pure Padel (Stockport) carries the town's name but sits in Adlington, with five indoor courts behind panoramic glass, open 6am to 10pm daily. Close by, Adlington Padel has four outdoor courts.

Into Manchester

The six-mile circle also reaches into the city. Northern Lawn Tennis Club in West Didsbury has two covered outdoor courts. In east Manchester, Carbon Padel Club (Manchester) has 17 indoor courts and a singles court, making it the largest venue within reach, and Powerleague (Manchester Nicholls) has six covered outdoor. On the far edge, Club De Padel Manchester has four outdoor courts near Deansgate.

When it rains on the Mersey

For a guaranteed dry game, the indoor courts closest to Stockport are Houldsworth Village in Reddish, Destination Padel in Cheadle, the five at Handforth Dean and Pure Padel's five in Adlington. Carbon's 17 are the biggest indoor block, about five miles away.

A further 17 outdoor courts have a roof over them: South Manchester Sports Club's seven, Powerleague's six, and two each at Soul Padel and Northern Lawn. They keep the rain off but stay open to the air, so wrap up in winter. The court at Grand Central and the outdoor courts at Adlington, Handforth and Club De Padel are open to the sky.

Prices we found

Only two venues had prices in our sample, both run by Life Leisure. On 4 October 2026, a court at Grand Central or Houldsworth Village cost from £24 an hour off-peak up to £42 at peak. That is for the whole court, so a doubles four splits it.

Peak and off-peak rates differ everywhere, and the other venues publish their prices on their own booking pages, so check there before you book.

Train, tram and car

Eleven of the 14 venues are within a mile of a railway station or tram stop. Grand Central is the easiest of all, two minutes from Stockport station. Houldsworth Village is nine minutes from Reddish South.

The Manchester courts are simple by rail or tram too: Northern Lawn is two minutes from the West Didsbury tram stop, Club De Padel three minutes from Deansgate, Powerleague four minutes from Ardwick and Carbon eight minutes from Ashburys.

The Cheadle, Handforth and Adlington clubs are more of a drive, with walks of 19 to 25 minutes from Heald Green, Handforth or Poynton stations. Every venue on the list has parking.

Booking and meeting other players

Playtomic handles bookings at 11 of the 14 venues. As well as booking a court, you can join open matches other players have set up at a similar level, which helps when you have two or three people and need a fourth. Northern Lawn uses Mindbody instead.

Seven venues offer coaching, among them Destination Padel, Pure Padel (Stockport), Carbon and The Padel Club (Wilmslow) in Handforth. Racket hire is listed only at Houldsworth Village, so bring your own elsewhere or ask the club first.

Further afield

Stockport shares a lot of courts with Manchester, 6 miles away, where the guide covers the city centre and the northern towns in more detail. Bolton is 16 miles and Warrington 18.

Further out are Stoke-on-Trent and Blackburn (both 27 miles), Sheffield (28), Preston (33), Liverpool and Chester (both 34) and Leeds (37).

The list above is kept up to date as clubs open, add courts or change how they take bookings, so check it for the latest. If you have not played before, the beginner's guide to padel explains what happens on court.
