Two big indoor clubs do most of the work in Derby. Between them they hold 21 courts, all under a proper roof, and one of them sits less than half a mile from the city centre. The rest of the map is filled in by a handful of smaller outdoor sites at clubs and sports grounds.
As of October 2026 we list six venues with 34 courts within eight miles of Derby. Twenty-one of those courts are indoors and 13 outside. Five of the six venues are pay and play, so you can book without joining anything.
S3 Padel (Derby) is the closest to town, 0.4 miles from the centre in DE1. It has ten indoor courts with panoramic glass, plus changing rooms and a café, and it is listed as accessible. It opens every day from 7am to 11pm.
About a mile out, David Lloyd (Derby) has four covered outdoor courts for members, with coaching on offer.
The largest venue is Just Padel (Derby) in DE24, a mile and a half from the centre, with 11 indoor courts and pay and play bookings. In the DE23 area, at a similar distance, Derbyshire Tennis Centre has a single outdoor court that anyone can book, and offers coaching.
West of the city, Mickleover Sports Club has four outdoor courts on a pay and play basis. Out towards Nottingham, 7.4 miles from Derby, Rutland Sports Park in Ilkeston has another four outdoor courts, open from 6.15am to 10pm every day.
All 21 indoor courts are at two venues, S3 Padel and Just Padel, so on a wet evening those are the two to look at first.
The four courts at David Lloyd have a roof over them but are still outdoor courts, so expect winter air even when the rain stays off. Mickleover, Rutland Sports Park and Derbyshire Tennis Centre are open to the sky.
Only one venue's prices were in our sample. On 4 October 2026, S3 Padel charged from £13 an hour for a whole court off-peak, rising to £40 an hour at peak times. Split between four players, that is a little over £3 each at the cheap end and £10 each at the top.
Peak and off-peak rates differ a lot, as those numbers show. The other venues publish prices on their booking pages.
Derby station is on the Midland Main Line, and two venues are a short walk from it. David Lloyd is six minutes on foot and S3 Padel 12 minutes. Just Padel is about 20 minutes' walk from the station, and Derbyshire Tennis Centre is 20 minutes from Peartree. Rutland Sports Park is half an hour's walk from Ilkeston station.
Driving is easy almost everywhere: five of the six venues list parking. S3 Padel is the one that doesn't, so the train or a bus is the easier way in.
Three venues take bookings through Playtomic: S3 Padel, Just Padel and Derbyshire Tennis Centre. As well as booking a court, the app shows open matches that other players have set up, so you can join a game at your level when you are a player short.
Coaching is listed at David Lloyd and Derbyshire Tennis Centre, and S3 Padel is the venue with racket hire, handy if you want to try the game before buying anything.
Our guide to booking a padel court in the UK walks through the apps and how payment splits. There are also some practical ideas for finding people to play with, and an outline of what a padel lesson covers.
