Padel in North West: our guide

More than 400 courts is a lot of padel for one region, and the North West gets there by having two layers: one big city with the largest total, and dozens of towns with a few courts each. As of October 2026 we list 102 venues here with 410 courts across 50 towns, and 222 of those courts are indoors.

Greater Manchester holds the largest share. Around it sits a ring of Lancashire and Cheshire towns, several with large indoor halls of their own, and the courts carry on up the M6 into Cumbria. Of the 102 venues, 83 are pay and play and 67 take online bookings.

Manchester first, then a ring of towns

Manchester has 12 venues and 63 courts, 28 of them indoor. That is almost as many as Liverpool, Blackburn and Preston put together. Our Manchester guide goes through the city district by district.

The rest of Greater Manchester adds a good deal more. Rochdale has 22 courts at three venues, every one of them indoors. Bolton, Wigan and Cheadle have 12 courts each, and there are smaller clusters in Stockport, Altrincham, Oldham, Stalybridge, Radcliffe and Atherton. Our guides to Stockport and Bolton cover the south and north of the county.

Merseyside is the second cluster. Liverpool has 23 courts at five venues, and the Wirral has ten more, all outdoor. Our Liverpool guide has the detail.

In Lancashire, Blackburn has 22 courts and Preston 19, both mostly indoor. Our guides to Blackburn and Preston pick up the venues around each town.

Cheshire is spread more thinly across many towns. Chester has its own area page, and Ellesmere Port, a few miles north, has 14 courts. Warrington sits between Manchester and Liverpool, and our Warrington guide covers the venues around it.

The biggest venues

Every one of the twelve largest venues is pay and play.

Rochdale stands out here. Two of its three venues make the list, which is why a town of its size has 22 indoor courts.

Towns beyond the big centres

Ellesmere Port has 14 courts at three venues, and Northwich 12 at four. Handforth has nine, and Nantwich, Macclesfield, Widnes and Warrington have seven each. Knutsford and Sandbach have five, and Nether Alderley three. That is a lot of Cheshire towns with a few courts each rather than one large centre.

East Lancashire has a run of indoor venues. Brierfield, near Burnley, has seven indoor courts at two venues, Rishton six indoor and Clitheroe five indoor, all within a short drive of Blackburn. On the Fylde coast there are six indoor courts in Blackpool, four in Poulton-le-Fylde and nine at two venues in Lytham St Annes. Chorley has seven, four of them indoor.

Cumbria has fewer venues but one big one. Racquet Club 24 in Workington has nine indoor courts, the most in the county. Kendal has five indoor courts and Carlisle four outdoor.

St Helens has nine outdoor courts in all, five at Dentons Green and four more listed under the town itself. Adlington has nine courts at two venues, five of them indoor.

Indoor courts and the north-west weather

Just over half the region's courts are indoors: 222 of 410. In a part of the country known for its rain, that share matters once the clocks go back.

The towns north of Manchester are the strongest for indoor play. Rochdale is entirely indoor, Preston has 17 of 19 courts under a roof and Blackburn 17 of 22, and Brierfield, Rishton, Blackpool and Clitheroe list only indoor courts. So does Workington, further north.

Manchester is more mixed, with 28 indoor courts out of 63. Carbon Padel Club accounts for 17 of those, while the 11 courts at Trafford City are outdoors. Much of Cheshire leans outdoor too: the Wirral, Nantwich, Macclesfield and Sandbach list no indoor courts, nor do Radcliffe, Atherton, St Helens or Carlisle.

Some outdoor courts have a roof, which keeps a game going in a shower but not out of the cold. Each venue page in the list above says whether its courts are covered.

New and on the way

The Padel Club Chester opened on 2 October 2026 with eight indoor courts. Several smaller projects are listed as opening soon:

  • Soul Padel Warrington at Birchwood, with three outdoor courts.
  • Stanley Sports Hub in Accrington, with two outdoor courts.
  • Padel Inn Radcliffe, with one indoor court.

None has a fixed date yet. Our courts opening soon page follows them.

The alphabetical list above has every North West venue, with court numbers, booking links and opening hours, and we keep it current as venues open and change. If you are new to booking, our guide to booking a padel court in the UK explains the booking apps and how open matches work.
