Padel in South East: our guide

Updated October 2026

The South East has no padel capital. As of October 2026 we list 123 venues and 377 courts across Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, spread over 90 towns and villages. No single town has more than 12 courts, and only two (Hassocks and Milton Keynes) pass ten.

130 of those courts are indoors and 247 are outdoor, so roughly one court in three is fully under cover. 69 venues are pay and play and 59 take bookings online. What you get is a region of small and middle-sized venues dotted along the market towns, commuter belt and coast, with the bigger indoor sites mostly in Kent and Hampshire.

County by county

Kent

Kent has the region's largest indoor cluster. Aylesford, just outside Maidstone, has ten indoor courts at one venue, and Ashford and Sittingbourne have seven indoor courts each. Boughton Monchelsea, south of Maidstone, adds five more indoors. Rochester, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge fill in the west of the county. The Maidstone and Canterbury area pages list the venues around each town.

Sussex

The busiest town in the whole region is Hassocks, at the foot of the South Downs, with 12 courts at three venues. Haywards Heath, a few miles north, has ten. Along the coast, Chichester has ten courts, Littlehampton and Eastbourne six each, Worthing five and Hove four. Inland there are Crowborough (seven), Horsham and East Grinstead. Our Brighton guide covers the city and the venues nearest to it.

Surrey

Epsom has ten courts at two venues and Farnham nine at three. Lightwater has six, and Weybridge, Egham and East Molesey four each. If you live on the London side of Surrey or Kent, our London guide covers the capital next door.

Hampshire

Southampton has ten courts, eight of them indoors, and Eastleigh next door has six. Portsmouth and Fleet have six indoor courts each, Bordon nine (seven indoors), Basingstoke six and Alton five. Our Southampton guide and Basingstoke guide go into detail, and our Bournemouth guide covers the Dorset side of the border.

Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire

Bracknell and Reading have ten courts each, Slough seven and Newbury four. The Reading area page lists the venues around that town. Milton Keynes has 11 courts at two venues, six of them indoors, with Chesham and Aylesbury further south. In Oxfordshire, Bicester has eight outdoor courts and Chipping Norton five.

The biggest venues

These are the twelve largest venues in the South East by court count:

Crowborough Tennis And Squash Club Ltd, 7 outdoor courts

Three of the twelve are Square One venues in Kent, with 24 indoor courts between them, and three are Padelhub sites, one each in Sussex, Hampshire and Kent. Crowborough and Frindsbury are members' clubs. Everything else on the list is pay and play.

Market towns and villages

Most of the South East's padel happens away from its cities. Hassocks, Haywards Heath, Epsom, Farnham, Bracknell and Bicester are not cities, yet each has eight courts or more.

Beyond the 40 busiest towns, another 53 venues are spread across 50 smaller places, with 108 courts between them. That works out at about two courts per venue, and only 15 of those 108 courts are indoors.

So if you live in a village between two towns, there is a fair chance of a court within a short drive. It just might be a single outdoor court rather than a dedicated padel centre.

Indoor courts and winter

About a third of the region's courts are indoors: 130 of 377. They cluster in a few places. Kent has Aylesford (ten), Ashford (seven), Sittingbourne (seven), Tunbridge Wells (six) and Boughton Monchelsea (five). Hampshire has Southampton (eight), Bordon (seven), Portsmouth (six) and Fleet (six). Milton Keynes has six, and Slough, Reading, Epsom, Chichester, Farnham and Haywards Heath five each.

Some of the busiest towns have no indoor courts at all. Bracknell, Bicester, Crowborough, Rochester, Sevenoaks and Basingstoke are all outdoor. A roofed outdoor court keeps the rain off, but it is still open at the sides, so in winter you will want layers.
