Watford sits where Hertfordshire meets the edge of north-west London, and its padel courts follow that line. Some are in Bushey, a short drive from the town centre, and the rest are spread out towards St Albans, Shenley, Northwood and Edgware. If you live anywhere between Hemel Hempstead and Harrow, this is your patch.
As of October 2026 there are 11 venues and 41 courts within seven miles of Watford. Most of the court space is outdoors (30 courts), though half of those have a roof. The 11 indoor courts are at three venues, and one of them holds seven.
Four venues sit within a mile and a half of Watford, all with Bushey addresses in WD23. Bushey Grove Leisure Centre is the closest, with three open-air courts, and is pay and play.
Close by, Metropolitan Bushey Events And Sports Venue has six outdoor courts and Powerleague (Watford) has four covered outdoor courts. Both are pay and play. David Lloyd (Bushey) has three indoor courts, but they are for members.
Padelstars (Watford) in WD25 has five covered outdoor courts, coaching and racket hire. It is the only venue in the area that lists racket hire, which helps if you are trying padel for the first time.
Encourt Padel, near How Wood on the St Albans side, is the largest venue in the area with seven indoor courts behind panoramic glass. It opens 6am to 11pm every day, has a café and is listed as accessible. Our data marks it as a membership venue, though it takes bookings on Playtomic.
Farm Padel (Shenley) has two courts, one indoor and one covered outdoor, and is pay and play. Near Hemel Hempstead, Leverstock Green Tennis Club has two covered outdoor courts for members.
The London side has three venues. David Lloyd (Northwood) has three covered outdoor courts for members. The Hive London in Edgware has three outdoor courts, open five days a week from 9am to 5pm, so it suits daytime players.
Up by Arkley, on the Barnet side, Padel Tree (Arkley) has three outdoor courts with panoramic glass and offers coaching. It lists no changing rooms, so turn up ready to play.
With only 11 indoor courts, the choice for a properly dry game is narrow. Encourt Padel has seven of them, David Lloyd (Bushey) has three for members, and Farm Padel has one.
A roof widens things. Fifteen of the 30 outdoor courts are covered: Padelstars (five), Powerleague (four), David Lloyd Northwood (three), Leverstock Green (two) and Farm Padel (one). They keep the court playable in rain but are open at the sides, so wrap up in winter.
The fully open courts are at Bushey Grove, Metropolitan Bushey, The Hive and Padel Tree. Check the forecast before you book those in the colder months.
Only one venue had a published price we could sample. On 4 October 2026, Encourt Padel charged from £60 to £80 for a court per hour, depending on the time. That is the whole court, so about £15 to £20 each for doubles. Peak and off-peak rates differ.
The other pay and play venues show their prices on their booking pages, so compare a few before you settle on one.
This is mostly driving territory. Every venue lists parking, and only five are within a mile of a station, with most walks taking 20 minutes or more.
The easiest on foot is The Hive, ten minutes from Canons Park on the Jubilee line. Padelstars is 19 minutes from Garston, Bushey Grove 21 minutes from Watford High Street, and David Lloyd (Northwood) 22 minutes from Northwood on the Metropolitan line. Encourt Padel is about 26 minutes' walk from How Wood.
Playtomic is used at five venues here: Powerleague, Metropolitan Bushey, Encourt, The Hive and Padel Tree. As well as booking, it lets you join open matches that other players have set up, so you can fill a game without bringing three friends. Bushey Grove books through Legend, the system many leisure centres use.
Four venues offer coaching (Padelstars, Padel Tree and both David Lloyd clubs), and Padelstars is the one place to hire a racket. Our guide on how to book a padel court in the UK covers the apps, and there are tips on finding people to play with and what lessons involve.
London is 15 miles away and has far more courts; the London guide covers them, and the Metropolitan line and trains into Euston make the trip easy from Watford. Reading is 28 miles west, and Chelmsford 38 miles east.
The list above is kept up to date as venues open, add courts or start taking online bookings, so check it for the latest. If you are new to the game, the beginner's guide to padel explains how a first session usually goes.
Padel Relay lists 11 venues in and around Watford with at least 41 known courts, 11 of them indoor. New venues open often, so tell us if one is missing.
8 venues are listed as pay and play, open to the public without membership, including Bushey Grove Leisure Centre, Powerleague (Watford), Metropolitan Bushey Events and Sports Venue, Padelstars (Watford). You may still need a free booking account.
Yes. 3 venues have indoor courts, so you can play whatever the weather. Examples include David Lloyd (Bushey), Encourt Padel, Farm Padel (Shenley).
