Padel in South West: our guide

Updated October 2026

East Gloucestershire Club, 7 outdoor courts in Cheltenham

For a region with more rain than most, the South West has done well for roofs. As of October 2026 we list 57 venues and 227 courts between Gloucestershire and Cornwall, and 139 of those courts are indoors. That is six courts in ten, a higher indoor share than you will find in London or the South East.

Bristol dominates, with 52 courts at ten venues, close to a quarter of the region's total. After that, padel follows the M4 and M5 through a string of county towns (Cheltenham, Gloucester, Swindon, Taunton, Exeter), with smaller pockets on the Dorset coast and a few courts in north Cornwall. 42 venues are pay and play and 32 take bookings online.

Bristol, then down the M5

Bristol

Bristol's ten venues hold 52 courts, 39 of them indoors. Three of the region's twelve largest venues are here. Our Bristol guide goes through them by area, with prices, stations and parking.

Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds

Cheltenham has 15 courts at four venues, though only four of them are indoors. Gloucester, just to the west, has 14, with nine indoors at a single venue on the docks. Our Cheltenham guide and Gloucester guide cover each town and the venues around it. Out in the Cotswolds, Moreton-in-Marsh has five courts and Cirencester three.

Wiltshire

Swindon has 14 courts at three venues, eleven of them indoors, and the Swindon area page lists them. The rest of the county is small venues: Corsham with six indoor courts, Chippenham four, then Pewsey, Chapmanslade and Salisbury.

Somerset

Taunton is the county's padel town, with 15 courts at three venues, and the Taunton area page lists them. Shepton Mallet has four indoor courts, and Frome, Burnham-on-Sea and Ilminster two each. Dulverton, on the edge of Exmoor, has a single indoor court.

Devon

Exeter has 17 courts at three venues, 15 of them indoors, which makes it the second-largest town in the region for padel. East Devon has Axminster, with ten indoor courts at two venues. Okehampton has six indoor courts, Torquay six outdoor, and Plymouth, for now, a single venue with four outdoor courts.

Dorset

The Bournemouth conurbation is split across three towns in our data. Poole has 11 courts at three venues, Christchurch ten indoor courts at two, and Bournemouth itself three, with Ferndown adding two. Our Bournemouth guide brings them together.

Cornwall

Cornish padel sits on the north coast. Newquay has seven outdoor courts at two venues, and Wadebridge and Padstow two each.

The biggest venues

These are the twelve largest venues in the South West by court count:

Eleven of the twelve are entirely indoor. The exception is East Gloucestershire Club, whose seven courts are all outdoors.

Small towns with big numbers

A lot of the South West's padel is in places you might not expect. Axminster, a small market town in east Devon, has ten indoor courts. Okehampton, on the edge of Dartmoor, has six indoor courts, and so does Corsham in Wiltshire.

Taunton's 15 courts put it level with Cheltenham. Shepton Mallet has four indoor courts, and Moreton-in-Marsh has five courts across two venues. Further west, Newquay, Wadebridge and Padstow give Cornwall eleven courts between them, all outdoors.

There are gaps too. Plymouth, the region's largest city after Bristol, has a single venue with four outdoor courts in our data, and the far west of Cornwall has none listed.

Indoor courts and Atlantic weather

With 139 of 227 courts indoors, the South West is a good region for winter padel. Bristol has 39 indoor courts, Exeter 15, Swindon 11, and Christchurch and Axminster ten each. Gloucester has nine, Okehampton and Corsham six each, and Poole and Taunton six each too.

Check the court type before you book in winter. Cheltenham's courts are mostly outdoor (11 of 15), as are all of Newquay's, Torquay's and Plymouth's. On a fully open court, a wet forecast can mean a cancelled game, so keep an eye on it the day before.

Opening soon

  • City Padel Plymouth: eight indoor courts, with an opening date of 10 October 2026. That would take Plymouth from four courts to twelve.
  • S3 Padel Bristol Brabazon, Patchway: nine outdoor courts. It was expected in summer 2026 and is still listed as coming soon.

Our page of courts opening soon is updated as new venues open.

Every venue in the region is listed above, in alphabetical order, with courts and booking links. If you are new to booking, our guide to booking a padel court in the UK covers the apps and how pricing works.
