Padel in Harrogate: our guide

Updated October 2026

David Lloyd (Harrogate), 2 outdoor courts

Harrogate is a compact spa town, and its padel courts are close together. As of October 2026 there are six venues with 17 courts within eight miles of the centre: four in Harrogate itself and two a short drive east in Knaresborough.

Eleven of the 17 courts are indoors, all of them at the three pay and play venues. The other six are outdoor courts at members' clubs, so where you can play depends a fair bit on whether you belong to one.

Harrogate's south side and the Knaresborough pair

Harrogate

The largest venue is Surge Padel (Harrogate), with six indoor courts in the HG2 postcode area, 1.4 miles from the centre. It is pay and play and offers coaching and racket hire.

Nearby, Harrogate Sports And Fitness Club has two covered outdoor courts for members. Closer to the middle of town, David Lloyd (Harrogate) has two open-air courts, also members only.

On the Starbeck side, Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre has two covered outdoor courts. It is listed for members, takes bookings through Playtomic and runs coaching.

Knaresborough

Padel Up (Knaresborough), four miles out, has three indoor courts with panoramic glass, racket hire and a café. It opens seven days a week, from 6am until 11pm at the widest.

A little further on, Hg5 Padel has two indoor courts, with coaching and racket hire. Both Knaresborough venues are pay and play.

Indoor courts and the covered ones

For anyone without a membership, wet weather is not much of a problem: every pay and play court in the area is indoors. That means Surge's six, Padel Up's three and the two at Hg5.

Members have four covered outdoor courts, two at Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre and two at Harrogate Sports And Fitness Club. A roof keeps the rain off the glass, but the sides are open, so wrap up in winter. The two courts at David Lloyd are uncovered.

Court prices

We have one sampled price so far. On 4 October 2026, Padel Up in Knaresborough charged from £24 for a court per hour off-peak, rising to £42 at peak. Split between four players, that is £6 to £10.50 each.

The other pay and play venues publish their rates on their booking pages, and peak and off-peak prices differ everywhere, so check the time slot before you book.

Stations and parking

The Harrogate line helps here. Hornbeam Park station is six minutes' walk from Surge Padel, and 17 minutes from Harrogate Sports And Fitness Club. Harrogate station is about 23 minutes on foot from David Lloyd, and Starbeck 22 minutes from the Spa Tennis Centre.

The Knaresborough venues are harder without a car. Padel Up is 28 minutes' walk from Knaresborough station and Hg5 Padel more than an hour. All six venues list parking.

Booking and finding a fourth

Three venues use Playtomic: Surge Padel, Padel Up and Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre. As well as booking, the app shows open matches that other players have set up and need people for, which is a quick way to fill a game if your usual group is short.

Coaching is offered at Surge Padel, Hg5 Padel and the Spa Tennis Centre. Racket hire is available at Surge, Padel Up and Hg5, so you can try the game before buying anything.

Our guide on booking a padel court in the UK covers how the apps work. There are also some ideas for finding people to play with, and a look at what lessons involve if you want a coach.

Leeds and York

For more choice, Leeds is 13 miles south and York 19 miles east, both with their own guides.

The list above is updated as venues change their courts, hours or booking, so it is the place to check before you set off. If you have never played, the beginner's guide to padel explains the basics.
