Padel in East Midlands: our guide

Updated October 2026

Atmos Padel (Chesterfield), 4 outdoor courts

Padel in the East Midlands has no single capital. Three centres of roughly equal weight, Nottingham, Northampton and Derby, hold just over half the courts between them, and the rest are scattered across 37 towns and villages, as far apart as Glossop in the Peak District and Maltby Le Marsh near the Lincolnshire coast.

As of October 2026 we list 65 venues in the region with 216 courts, 125 of them indoors. Most of those venues, 52 of the 65, are open to anyone on a pay-and-play basis rather than members only, and 44 take bookings online.

Nottingham, Northampton and Derby, then Lincoln

Nottingham and Northampton are level at 36 courts apiece. Nottingham spreads its total across nine venues, while Northampton fits its courts into seven, which tells you its halls are bigger. Derby is close behind with 31 courts at six venues. Our guides to padel in Nottingham, Northampton and Derby go venue by venue.

Lincoln is the fourth cluster, with 12 courts at five venues, half of them indoor. Our Lincoln guide covers the city and its edges.

Leicester is the surprise. The city itself has two venues and five courts, all indoor, fewer than the market town of Melton Mowbray. Leicestershire's padel lives mostly in its towns and villages instead: Melton, Market Harborough, Lutterworth, Loughborough, Croft and others add up to well over the city's total.

In the far north of Derbyshire, Dronfield and Clay Cross sit nearer to Sheffield than to Derby. If you live on that side of the county, read our Sheffield guide too. The city is just over the border in South Yorkshire.

The biggest venues

Every one of the twelve largest venues is pay and play, and all but two are fully indoor.

Northampton has three of these venues, with 26 indoor courts between them, which is how it matches Nottingham for courts with fewer sites.

Market towns and villages

Melton Mowbray stands out, with 11 courts at two venues: Play Pdl indoors and Rally Yard outside. No other town outside the cities comes close. Dronfield follows with eight courts, five of them at Padel 18, then Clay Cross with five.

A long list of towns have four courts each. Some are indoor, at Farnsfield, Boston and Tuxford. Others are outdoor, at Chesterfield, Mansfield, Ilkeston and Newark. Market Harborough has four split across two venues, half of them under a roof.

Smaller sites fill in the gaps. Glossop and Wysall have three indoor courts each, and Bottesford and Louth have three outdoors. Two-court venues sit at Calver in the Peak District, Fernwood, Loughborough, Tur Langton, Scalford, Croft, Roughton Moor, Lutterworth and Stamford.

Lincolnshire is the most spread out part of the region. Beyond Lincoln there are courts at Boston, Louth, Stamford, Roughton Moor and Market Rasen, and a single court at Maltby Le Marsh towards the coast. If you live in the county, the nearest court may well be in a market town, not the city.

Seven places have a single court: Coalville, Worksop, Market Rasen, South Luffenham in Rutland, East Farndon, Scrooby and Maltby Le Marsh. One of those on your doorstep can beat a half-hour drive to a bigger centre, but check how it takes bookings before you set off.

Indoor courts and the winter months

Just under three in five courts in the region are indoors: 125 of 216. That share is not spread evenly. Northampton has 28 indoor courts out of 36, and Derby 21 out of 31, so both cities keep playing through a wet January without much trouble. Nottingham is more mixed, with 15 of its 36 indoors.

Away from the cities the picture changes. The indoor courts outside the big four sit mainly at Melton Mowbray, Dronfield, Clay Cross, Farnsfield, Boston, Tuxford, Glossop, Wysall and Leicester. Many of the smaller towns, including Chesterfield, Mansfield, Newark and Ilkeston, list only outdoor courts.

The 91 outdoor courts include some with a roof over them, which keeps the rain off but not the cold. Each venue page in the list above says whether its courts are covered, so look there before booking an evening game between November and March.

On the way

Pulse Padel Leicester is planned for Kirby Muxloe, on the western edge of Leicester, with four indoor courts. It was meant to open in spring and is now expected later in 2026. When it opens it will nearly double the indoor courts in and around the city. Our courts opening soon page tracks it.

The full list of East Midlands venues above is alphabetical and kept up to date, with booking links, opening hours and court details for each. If you have not booked a court before, our guide to booking a padel court in the UK explains the apps and what to expect when you pay.
