Heritage

Tecnifibre traces its origins to 1979, when tennis enthusiast Thierry Maissant co-founded the company Major Sport with former Formula 1 driver Hermano da Silva Ramos. The aim was to make products suited to the needs and level of individual tennis players.

Strings came first. In 1983 Tecnifibre produced its first strings using polyurethane, a technology new to the market at the time. The brand states that its strings are still made entirely in France, at the Cousin manufacturing facilities in the north of the country.

Stringing became a second speciality. Tecnifibre began producing stringing machines in 1985, served as official stringer at a number of ATP events and became the official stringer of Roland Garros in 1987. In 1998 it developed and distributed the official Roland Garros ball, which stayed in play for more than ten years.

Rackets followed through squash. Tecnifibre's first squash racket was launched in 2001 with French player Thierry Lincou, who later reached world No. 1 and worked with the brand for around 20 years. Egyptian players Mohamed El Shorbagy (world No. 1 from 2014) and Nour El Sherbini (world No. 1 in 2016) later led the squash roster.

In 2004 Tecnifibre entered tennis rackets with two ranges for competitive players, T-Fight for control and T-Flash for power. A first tennis ball followed in 2005. From 2013 the brand supplied official rackets, strings, bags and accessories to the ATP World Tour and was official stringer of the ATP World Tour Finals until 2020.

Ownership changed in 2017. On 31 August 2017 Lacoste Holding announced the purchase of 80% of Major Sports' share capital, effective 1 October 2017. The two brands later launched the Les Petits Crocos junior programme (2018), and from spring and summer 2022 Tecnifibre took over global distribution of Lacoste tennis and golf products.

The tennis side produced the brand's biggest results in the 2020s. Daniil Medvedev's 2021 US Open title was Tecnifibre's first Grand Slam singles title, Iga Swiatek joined in 2021 and reached world No. 1 in 2022, and her 2025 Wimbledon title gave the brand its first Grand Slam on grass.

In padel, Tecnifibre's B2B site states the brand has been present since 2014. The range took shape in 2022 with Wall Breaker, a four-model power line (355, 360, 365 and 375 grams) promoted by Benjamin Tison, France's No. 1 padel player at the time, followed in 2023 by the control-oriented Wall Master range.

In 2025 Tecnifibre launched Curva, developed in its TecniLab around ball trajectory and the 'negative angle', a lower trajectory that keeps the bounce off the glass low. Curva uses X-Speed air channels running from the sides to the face. A diamond-shaped power range, Bomba (Max, Speed, Soft and Lite), was added for 2026.

Today the official site lists three padel racket families (Bomba, Curva, Wall Master) alongside tennis, squash and, since 2024, pickleball. Its padel roster, as listed in October 2026, includes Javier Martinez, Joel Olivera Palos, Federico Chiostri, Jesus Moya, Lucho Capra and Belar Vera Lopez.
