Heritage

adidas traces its roots to July 1924, when Adolf (Adi) Dassler and his brother Rudolf founded the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik in Herzogenaurach, Germany. After the brothers split in 1949, Adi Dassler registered the company as adidas on 18 August 1949, and Rudolf founded Puma. adidas acquired the three stripes trademark from the Finnish brand Karhu in 1952.

For most of its history adidas was known for football boots, running shoes and athletics, later growing into one of the largest sportswear groups in the world. It did not build padel racquets in-house, and its move into the sport came through a licensing partner.

In 2013 the Spanish company All For Padel was set up with the exclusive worldwide licence to develop and market adidas padel products, later extended to pickleball and beach tennis. José Luis Sicre, a co-founder, is CEO of AFP Group. The same year it signed its first player, Martita Ortega, and in 2014 the first adidas padel racquet collection went on sale. Early team members also included Roby Gattiker.

In 2015 All For Padel became an official World Padel Tour sponsor for fans, built its first court and showed its range at the Padel Pro Show. In 2016 it launched the Adipower racquet range, with 100% carbon ribs in the structure, signed Álex Ruiz, and Martita Ortega won her first World Padel Tour title. In April 2017 adidas, through All For Padel, became the official racquet of the World Padel Tour for two seasons.

In 2018 adidas signed Ale Galán, then aged 21 and ranked tenth on the World Padel Tour, on a four-season deal, together with former world number one Sebastián Nerone. Ortega became the youngest player to reach women's world number one in 2019, aged 22, and Galán reached men's world number one for the first time in 2020.

The Metalbone range launched in 2021 according to All For Padel, with an octagonal carbon tube and a Weight and Balance System of six removable screws. All For Padel reported revenue of more than 30 million euros in 2021 and in November 2022 the SOPEF fund, managed by MCH Private Equity, became a minority investor. The company also builds padel courts under the adidas name through its AFP Courts division.

In June 2023 adidas became the naming partner of Home of Padel (HOP), the UK tournament organiser founded by Great Britain coach John Leach and Javi Serrats, and its events were renamed adidas HOP Pro, HOP Tour, HOP Women and HOP Youth. All For Padel marked its tenth anniversary the same year and introduced the Adipower Multiweight with Álex Ruiz.

In 2024 adidas was the official racquet of the Premier Padel events in Seville and Málaga, and became racquet and bag sponsor of the Hexagon Cup in Madrid. Galán renewed with adidas in June 2024 and Pol Hernández renewed for three years in April 2025. In November 2025 Galán and Federico Chingotto won the pairs world championship in Kuwait, beating Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia in the final.

Álex Ruiz ended his partnership with adidas in January 2026 after more than ten years. In February 2026 adidas signed Ari Sánchez, women's world number one in 2023 and 2024, who plays the Arrow Hit racquet. The PRO EDT 2026 collection includes limited-edition racquets for Galán (Metalbone), Ortega (Cross It) and Sánchez (Arrow Hit). By October 2026 Galán and Chingotto had won seven titles in the season and Sánchez had won in Riyadh, Valencia, Paris and Rotterdam with Andrea Ustero.
