Heritage
Joma began in 1965 when Fructuoso López, born in Portillo de Toledo in 1942, started making footwear in the village with a handful of employees. The company was first registered under his own name, and its brand name was later formed from the first letters of José Manuel, his first-born son.
From 1968 the business specialised in sports footwear rather than general-use shoes. In 1972 it moved into football kit, outfitting the Mexican club Atlético Morelia, the start of a long relationship with Mexican football.

During the 1990s Joma became known for bringing coloured football boots to the market and led Spanish football boot sales in several seasons. It also began to internationalise, opening subsidiaries in markets including the USA, Mexico, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom.
In November 2016 the company marked its 50th anniversary with a gala at its headquarters in Portillo de Toledo, attended by more than 600 guests from 70 countries. By then Joma described itself as the leading Spanish sports brand, sponsoring football clubs, national federations and Olympic committees.
Joma's padel story started with players. In February 2014 it signed Juani Mieres, then partnering Pablo Lima on the World Padel Tour, joining Argentine players Martín Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk, José Antonio García Diestro and Juan Manuel Restivo. In 2015 Mari Carmen Villalba became the first woman sponsored by Joma in padel.

Footwear was the foundation. Joma's Slam shoe became the official shoe of the World Padel Tour, and by 2021 the brand was also official footwear of the International Padel Federation (FIP) and official textile and footwear supplier to the World Padel Tour Challenger circuit.
On 15 December 2021 Joma presented its first padel racket line at the World Padel Tour Master Final under the slogan 'We are padel', in front of distributors from more than 20 countries. In January 2022 Alba Galán became the first professional to compete with a Joma racket, the Tournament model.
Since 2024 the brand has widened its padel sponsorships: technical footwear sponsor of A1 Padel (February 2024), former world number one Carolina Navarro as ambassador (March 2024), Vero Virseda joining the team (July 2024) and supplier agreements with Premier Padel events in Valladolid, NEWGIZA and Dubai (October 2024), later extended to Germany and London.

On court, Joma players Juanlu Esbrí and José Antonio García Diestro reached a Premier Padel semi-final in Asunción in 2025, won the FIP Silver in Porto, and helped Spain win the 2025 European Padel Championship; Esbrí also won FIP Platinum Lyon 2025 with Álex Ruiz.
In 2026 Joma launched a reworked racket collection, developed in its J Lab with input from Carolina Navarro, in four families (Hyper, Blast, Valkiria and Iconic), most offered in Hard and Soft versions. The same year it produced a padel racket for Brentford FC, became official sportswear partner of the Padel Federation of Ireland and official footwear partner of the London Premier Padel P1.
